Short description

VANHEEDE ENVIRONMENT GROUP is an integrated environmental company specialised in waste management and innovative environmental technologies. In addition to internationally organised waste logistics, VANHEEDE ENVIRONMENT GROUP also has various treatment sites.

The over 1850 waste flows collected by the group are processed into new raw materials or energy. VANHEEDE ENVIRONMENT GROUP also has extensive knowledge on waste and on the environmental industry. As a result, the group is often consulted for environmental advice and concerning the development of environmental technology (green energy) for third parties.

Currently, VANHEEDE ENVIRONMENT GROUP is a market leader in Belgium and Northern France in waste management. But the ambitions are far-reaching. Under the motto “Managing Your Waste“, a number of international projects, both within and outside Europe, are in the pipeline.

A summary of environmental achievements

Most of our efforts are spent on finding better ways to reduce waste generation, improve sorting and recycling activities. Still there is a small amount of residue to be landfilled. First and utmost important hereby is, that no emissions whatsoever are released to soil, groundwater and air. But as a passionate sustainable company we strive to go that one step further then what is done elsewhere.

Therefore we have developed propriety modeling tools to monitor and manage the biological processes that occur in the waste body. As a result we produce per ton waste about 50%-100% more biogas then other landfill sites. Our specific cell and capping strategy ensures that a maximum of biogas can be valorized in our cogeneration unit. Last but not least we needed to resolve the issue of the heat usage as we don’t have any demand in our own processes.

We just finalized a project to capture and transfer (+/- 500m)  this heat to be used in the production process of a neighboring company. Recently the harvesting machines of Dewulf nv are painted in Ferrari-red driven by our heat. The staining, drying and baking activities in their coating line are no longer connected on the mains gas network but only rely on our heat supply.

Personal testimony

I’m very pleased to succeed with this project because it really is a combination of technological, economical, ecological and social issues. Even when this is not the biggest investment our company made, it shows our commitment to sustainability, flexibility and partnership and results in a lot of happy stakeholders.
