Carbon conscious businesses gathered at the Ipswich Docks to celebrate the many green achievements that have led to them receiving the Suffolk Carbon Charter.
Suffolk businesses present their views on the Carbon Charter - and what it means to be seen to be green in a competitive market place.

Efforts are expected from all of us: as individuals, as communities, as companies, as governments. The roads to sustainability are diverse. The European Green Business Network is launching a search for its greenest member. Voted for by the platform’s users, the winning business will be profiled at a high-profile business conference in Suffolk, as well as promoted across the network’s core regions.
Suffolk’s Latitude Festival is back this year with a stellar line up including Paolo Nutini, Suede and the Eels, as well as the theatre, comedy and art the festival is known for. Latitude is working with 10:10 to reduce their carbon footprint by 10% this year - and so are Suffolk County Council! In recognition of all the good work SCC do to improve their environmental impact,10:10 & Latitude gifted the council two weekend camping tickets for this year’s festival.
Thanks to the eco efforts of pupils at Sir John Leman High School, and the support of Suffolk County Council, seven new PIR timers have been fitted to the school’s humanities classrooms (‘K’ Corridor) – which will result in big savings on electricity costs, as well as a reduced carbon footprint.
POM East Flanders and Interwaas want to explore the possibilities for a joint purchase of energy monitoring devices.
In Autumn 2010, POM East Flanders and Interwaas organized a succesful edition of the training on energy management (EN 16001). Following this training, the idea grew to offer the companies in the Waasland region the possibility of joining a group purchase or rent of energy monitoring devices. In June 2011, the consultants of Grontmij were assigned to assist both POM and Interwaas in this process. In the fall of 2011, the first informative sessions will be organized for interested companies.
In 2010, EVR architects performed a feasibility study on green building design for POM East Flanders. The subject of the study was a new building, a shared facility, in Maldegem. POM East Flanders has a clear aim to incorporate as many green building design elements as possible into the facility and will, if possible, aim at better (energy) performance levels than legally demanded. POM East Flanders has decided to apply for a BREEAM industrial building certificate. An external consultant, BOPRO, was assigned to assist POM East Flanders and the architect in obtaining the certificate.
Nearly 2,000 Ipswich families have pledged to become greener, saving a potential £250,000 in energy bills and a whopping 123 tonnes of carbon.
