Challenge number five!

The fifth challenge is the last one for Växjö's Climate Idols. The task: to cut the carbon emissions from food by 15 % during May. All receipts from restaurants and supermarkets are collected to be compared with receipts from 2009.

The meeting was held at a local supermarket with a good environmental profile and was led by an expert on sustainable food. After discussing different kinds of food and their environmental impact, the Climate Idols made a "climate smart" menu based on the following principles: organic, locally produced, seasonal, meat-free, sustainably-sourced fish and low-waste. The menu will be cooked and served at a local restaurant (Kafé de luxe) on 17-21 of May.

The next task was to make climate smart icecream out of old, frozen bananas. The fruit was blended with ingredients like cacao, vanilla and walnuts and served to the customers in the supermarket. Tasted great, and the Idols had a lot of fun!

In early Autumn, results from all five challenges will be presented to see how big a difference the project made in terms of carbon emissions.
