The final meeting with the Climate Idols took place on August 24th. After five challenges it was time to take a look at the results! How climate smart are they now? The evening started with an ecologic buffet and interviews with local TV-station and newspaper.
The final results from the Climate Idol project were then presented: 30 percent less carbon emissions in 2010 compared to 2009. An amazing reduction! County governor Kristina Alsér achieved the largest reduction with 66 percent. The Climate Idol with the smallest climate impact in 2010 was Ulf Ekeroth. The goal of the project was to reach the local targets, 4,7 tons carbon emissions per person and year. At the time of the final meeting five Climate Idols had their results ready, and all of them reached the goal. Their average level of carbon emissions is now 2.7 tonnes.
By reaching the target, they earned a "Green Card" which was handed over by Åsa Karlsson Björkmarker from the municipal executive board. The Green Card is a guide to sustainable shopping in Växjö combined with climate-friendly offers at local businesses.
